BEING A TEXT OF COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE INAUGURAL MEETING OF PAN-REMO GROUP ON SATURDAY 12TH JULY, 2014 AT AKARIGBO PALACE, ITA-OBA SAGAMU.
The meeting was convened by a coalition of Remo elites to discuss issues bothering on the creation of Ijebu State and the location of its capital as proposed at the ongoing National conference.
The meeting was attended by 30 delegates from the three Local government in Remoland (Sagamu, Ikenne and Remo North Local Governments).
Without any iota of doubt, the creation of Ijebu State has been long overdue even before states like Ekiti, Osun, Bayelsa, etc were created.
It is noteworthy and instructive to say, that the proposed Ijebu state has been a common agitation of both the IJEBUs and REMOs, the original agitators and owners of the proposed state.
Therefore, the PAN REMO FORUM hereby resolves as follows:
To fervently support the creation of Ijebu State.
To see to the siting of the Capital in Ikenne Remo for equity and justice based on the fact that Ikenne is a Remo town and Local government which shares boundary with Ijebu towns like Odogbolu, Ijesha- Ijebu and Aiyepe. Also, Ikenne is the hometown of the late Sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo (SAN), who happens to be Nigeria’s most celebrated Politician.
To demand for the place and position of Remo in the process.
To reject every attempt to reduce Remo land and its people to second fiddles in the creation of the Ijebu State.
To continue to let the whole world knows that IJEBU and REMO are two different socio-political entities. (The December 20th, 1937 Martindale Report is our witness)
To extend our hands of cooperation and understanding on this issue of state creation to our brothers and sisters in Ijebu.
To sensitize and orientate our people on the need to be fully involved in ALL PROCESSES that will lead to the creation of the proposed IJEBU State with its capital at IKENNE REMO.
These we stand on in the interest of Remo people and that of the proposed Ijebu State.
Long live Ijebu!
Long live Remo!
Long live Nigeria!
